The Takeaway: Excavating Your Life

Identify your goals—long-term, first, then more importantly, short-term. Your goals could be as big as publishing a novel or as small as journaling every day. Think about how you’ve been pursuing those goals, especially if you’ve been pursuing them for a year or five years or ten years or more. This is when it gets a little scary: Think about what you’ve done right to make them happen, and then what obstacles have prevented you from reaching your goals, whether from outside yourself or from within. What is one small thing you can change in your routine? Start small, but do it every day.
